Boltshift: Taking a Logistics Business to the Cloud.

A logistics scale-up trades server-room anxiety for a cloud platform and office network that scale with every new route they open.

Overview

Growing fast on fragile foundations

Boltshift coordinates same-day deliveries across three cities. Their dispatch software ran on two ageing servers under a desk, the warehouse Wi-Fi dropped scanners mid-shift, and every new hire meant a day of manual laptop setup. Growth had started to feel risky instead of exciting.

  • Client: Boltshift, logistics scale-up, 90 staff
  • Scope: cloud migration + office & warehouse network
  • Timeline: eight weeks, zero dispatch downtime

Challenge

One server failure away from missed deliveries

01

Single points of failure

Dispatch, routing and billing all lived on hardware with no failover and untested backups.

02

Dead zones

Warehouse scanners lost connection mid-aisle, forcing paper fallbacks during peak hours.

03

Slow onboarding

Each new courier coordinator waited a full day for accounts, devices and permissions.

04

No visibility

Nobody could say which system was slow, or why — every incident started from zero.

Approach & solution

Migrate in waves, rebuild in nights

We stood up a secure cloud landing zone first, then moved workloads in four weekend waves — each with a tested rollback. On the ground, we resurveyed both sites, replaced the wireless backbone and segmented dispatch traffic from guest access. Monitoring went live before the final cutover, so the first Monday ran on dashboards, not hope.

Deliverables & outcome

What Boltshift kept

✓

Cloud dispatch platform

Highly available workloads with automated backups and one-click restore drills.

✓

Site-wide wireless

Full-coverage Wi-Fi across office and warehouse with segmented, prioritised traffic.

✓

Runbooks & training

Illustrated guides and handover sessions the internal team still uses weekly.

✓

Monitoring dashboards

Live views of system health with alerts routed to our 24/7 desk first.

Since go-live, Boltshift has opened two new depots on the same platform without additional infrastructure work, scanner dropouts have disappeared from shift reports, and new coordinators start fully provisioned on their first morning.
